The following skills will be assessed each nine week period.
First Nine Weeks
English Language Arts
Orally produce a complete sentence
Read high frequency sight words (see the list in the binder)
Recognize rhyming words
Understand syllables in spoken words (segment, count, pronounce, and blend)
Isolate and pronounce initial sounds in VC or CVC words
Identify opposites of verbs and adjectives
Ask and answer question about key details in text
Retell familiar stories, including key details
Identify characters, setting, and major events in a story
Define the role of author and illustrator
Read high frequency sight words in text with 95% mastery
Math
Count to 25
Count backward from 10
Name 2D and 3D shapes regardless of their orientation or size (square, circles, triangles, rectangles, hexagons, cubes, cones, cylinders, spheres)
Identify shapes as 2D or 3D
Describe objects in the environment using names of shapes
Identify positions of objects (above, below, beside, in front of, behind, between, next to, etc.)
Describe similarities and differences between 2-D and 3-D shapes in different orientations
Model shapes in the world by building and drawing shapes
Compose larger shapes using simple smaller
Second Nine Weeks
English Language Arts
Name upper and lower case letters in random order and in text
Identify consonant and short and long vowel sounds
Recognize and name ending punctuation
Read high frequency sight words in text with 95% accuracy
Produce rhyming words
Isolate and pronounce final sounds in VC or CVC words
Distinguish between similarly spelled words by identifying the letters that differ
Form plural nouns
Use nouns and verbs
Identify multiple meanings of familiar words
Draw/dictate/write an opinion piece
Math
Count to 50 by ones
Name numbers 0 – 10
Write numbers 0 – 10
Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0 – 10
Given a number from 1 – 10, count out that many objects
Compare two given numbers up to 10, when written as numerals, using the terms greater than, less than, or equal to
Describe and compare length and weight of objects
Sort a collection (with 10 or less) into a given category and compare the group sizes
Third Nine Weeks

Capitalize the first word in a sentence and the pronoun I
Blend and segment onsets and rimes
Isolate and pronounce medial sounds in CVC words
Substitute sounds to make new words
Decode CV and CVC words with 95% mastery
Understand and use question words
Compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of characters in familiar stories
Identify the main topic and retell key details in informational text
Identify basic similarities and differences between two texts on the same topic
Read emergent reader texts with purpose and understanding with 95% mastery
